Prof. Dr. Captain Norzali Mohd Zain, 63, is the current head of training and consultancy department at the Netherlands Maritime University College (NMUC). He is the key figure in securing a RM 5.3 million training grant for Dynamic Positioning (DPO) and Remote Operating Vehicle (ROV) from the Technology Depository Agency, the funding arm of the Ministry of Finance. In the oil and gas sector, his business portfolio for 2021 is worth RM 15.5 million, which were delivered at the end of July 2021 for the decommissioning and installation of subsea hose and mooring systems at the oil fields owned and operated by Petronas. He began his career as a Marine Deck Apprentice at Singapore Polytechnic from 1976 to 1977. He previously held various position such as the General Manager of Marine Operations for the Operations Division at PBJV Group from 2011 to 2016, Marine Specialist for Asia Pacific at DHL Global Forwarding in Singapore prior to joining PBJV between 2009 and 2010, Merchant Marine Officer with Malaysian International Shipping Corporation Bhd (MISC) from 1977 to 1986 and Principal Marine Warranty Surveyor for Ranaco Marine Sdn Bhd from 1986 to 1998. During this period, he was seconded to Noble Denton Malaysia as Director and Principal Warranty Marine Surveyor.
From 1998 to 2000, he served as the General Manager at Permint Engineering Sdn Bhd where he oversaw plant maintenance shutdowns and turnarounds, design and fabrication of process equipment, piping and steel construction in Kerteh and Gebeng petrochemical areas. From 2000 to 2001, he worked as the Resident Manager for Malaysia at Ta Ching & BT Engineering Singapore. In this role, he was involved in piping and steel construction projects for major fabricators. Then, he was appointed as the Technical Manager for Marine and Energy Consulting at Pelorus Sdn Bhd from 2002 until 2006, currently known as the Netherlands Maritime University College. He served as the General Manager and Principal Marine Warranty Surveyor at Berkat Global Sdn Bhd from 2007 to 2009. In this role, he oversaw the marine warranty inspections for Petronas Carigali. Norzali Mohd Zain holds a Merchant Marine Officer Competency Certificate from Sydney Technical College earned between 1981 and 1982. Currently, he possesses a Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (Malaysia) certification obtained in 2018 and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Wales conferred in April 2021.
