International
“South-East Asia is characterized by significant economic development. Well-connected ports in both the foreland and hinterland are crucial for its success. About 80% of worldwide trade is done via maritime transport. Countries in the ASEAN region recognize this and pay attention to the developments in the sector. Malaysia is no exception in this. The developments in the maritime, port and logistics sector need to focus on sustainable development, focusing on economic, environmental, and social benefits. For maritime, port and logistics developments, the human capital plays an important role. Without people working in the industry with the right skills and knowledge, one will not reach the full potential. Therefore, international conferences such as this one are important for further knowledge enhancement on these topics. But such conferences also play an important role in establishing stakeholder relationships. STC Next is encouraging these efforts and is therefore pleased to contribute to this international conference organized by NMUC. STC Next would like to thank NMUC for the organization and is confident that this conference will have an impact, not only in Malaysia, but for the whole ASEAN region.

PRESIDENT
Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT)
Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh
Ladies and gentlemen, honored guests and speakers,
I am pleased to welcome you to the first edition of the International Conference on Maritime Logistics and Ports (ICMLP), organized by the Netherlands Maritime University College , STC Next – Rotterdam, in cooperation with the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport, represented by the Port Training Institute. This event marks the beginning of cooperation between these prestigious institutions in organizing international conferences, and being proactive market leaders in our diverse regions. This conference is part of emphasizing the importance of the maritime industry and the need for integration between global ports in light of the changes, developments and risks threatening international shipping.
Dear guests,
The Arab Academy is one of the most prestigious educational institutions in Egypt and the Arab region with over fifty years of experience in the fields of education, training, research and maritime consultancy. It is also one of the specialized organizations of the League of Arab States. In addition, the Academy has signed numerous cooperation protocols with international educational institutions, involving nearly 30 institutions in Europe, Asia, the United States and many other countries.
The Port Training Institute (PTI) and the Maritime Research & Consultation Center (MRCC), which I have the privilege of heading, are two specialized technical institutions of the Arab Academy that deal with the training and qualification of maritime professionals and conduct studies, research and consultancy in the maritime field. PTI & MRCC have over 40 years of experience in these fields. During this time, they have trained thousands of trainees in Egypt, the Arab region and Africa and conducted dozens of studies, research and consultancy for seaports in Egypt and the Arab world.
Dear Guests,
This conference, which will be attended by a large number of decision makers from around the world as well as renowned experts and professionals in the field of ports and maritime transportation, aims to shed light on the role of technology and sustainable development through the use of renewable energy techniques and reducing the environmental impact in the face of climate change that our planet is facing. It also aims to improve knowledge of future challenges, the importance of the resilience and quality of port services and the strategic role of digitalization in improving maritime transport and developing environmentally friendly shipping practices.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Finally, allow me to acknowledge this constructive and extraordinary cooperation and to reaffirm that the Arab Academy spares no effort to cooperate and provide support to any regional or international institution, be it in the training and qualification of personnel or in the provision of research and consultancy.
Thank you.
Prof. Ts. Dr. Muhammad Zaly Shah
PRESIDENT
The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Malaysia (CILT)
Today, the maritime industry stands at the forefront of both challenge and opportunity brought about by two disruptive trends that challenge our resilience and adaptability – geopolitical conflicts and artificial intelligence.
Geopolitical conflicts can have profound impacts on maritime trade. Trade routes are often disrupted, leading to delays, increased costs, and uncertainties. Conflicts can cause port closures, rerouting of ships, and create dangerous conditions for maritime personnel. Moreover, sanctions and trade restrictions can complicate international trade agreements, affecting the flow of goods and commodities globally.
However, these challenges also drive innovation and adaptation. In this conference, it is my hope that we will explore the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence, a force reshaping maritime transportation and port operations. Through predictive analytics, we can foresee disruptions and optimize routes, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of goods. Machine learning algorithms enhance port operations, automating cargo handling, and improving throughput. AI-driven systems provide real-time monitoring and maintenance, reducing downtime and enhancing safety for vessels and port facilities alike.
Together, we will chart a course towards a more resilient, efficient, and innovative future for global maritime logistics.
Welcome, and let the voyage begin.
