Nazery Khalid is a maritime analyst who has been involved as a speaker, moderator and panelist in over 300 seminars, conferences and summits worldwide and has published over 350 articles in print (including refereed journals and chapters in books) and online on a wide range of maritime topics.
He came to prominence in this field at Maritime Institute of Malaysia (MIMA), a policy think tank under the Ministry of Transport Malaysia, where he served as Senior Fellow / Research Coordinator and Head of Center of Maritime Economics and Industries from 2004 to 2014. He maintains his affiliation with MIMA to this day as a Distinguished Fellow.
Nazery was visiting scholar at Bahria University, Karachi (2008), Cardiff Business School (2010), University Paris Diderot (2011), National Institute of South China Sea Studies in Hainan, China (2013) and Sun Yat Sen University in Guangzhou (2013). He is currently an Adjunct Professor at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu and Taylor’s University and an ELITE@UM Fellow at Universiti Malaya.
He has represented Malaysia at International Maritime Organization meetings and ASEAN Maritime Transport Working Group meetings. He sits on the Advisory Panel of Netherlands Maritime Institute of Technology Malaysia and Yayasan Peneraju was the Honorary Secretary, Association of Marine Industries of Malaysia (AMIM) from 2015 to 2018.
Nazery has a total of 36 years working experience, 15 of which in the financial services industry, 10 in policy research and 11 in Corporate Communications in a publicly listed Government Linked Company. Throughout those years, he amassed a wealth of knowledge and competencies in banking, finance, capital markets, maritime policy research and formulation, corporate communications, stakeholder management and public relations. He has also carried out training and consultancy work in these fields.
Nazery holds an MBA from International Islamic University, Malaysia and a BA in Business Administration from Ottawa University, Kansas, USA.
