First Admiral (Maritime) Hamizan bin Harun currently serves as the Director of the Sultan Ahmad Shah Maritime Academy (AMSAS) under the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Ministry of Home Affairs. Born on May 1975 in Pahang, First Admiral Hamizan has commenced his professional journey in 1995 with the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), where he underwent Basic Naval Training at KD Pelandok. In 1998, he was appointed as Navigation Officer and Executive Officer onboard KD Sarawak, gaining extensive experience in vessel navigation, operational management, and team leadership. This was followed by his appointment as Executive Officer of KD Todak in 2002, further strengthening his operational command capabilities.
In 2003, First Admiral Hamizan was entrusted with the role of Training Officer on MV Fajar Samudera, a training ship under the Royal Malaysian Navy, where he played a critical role in developing future naval officers through practical maritime training and mentorship. His command experience expanded in 2004 when he was appointed as Commanding Officer of KD Badek, exemplifying trust in his tactical and operational command proficiency.
In 2005, he joined the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) under an Appointment Exchange Scheme. He was immediately appointed as Commanding Officer of KM Jarak, leading maritime patrol operations to ensure national security and enforcement of maritime laws. His exemplary performance led to various strategic appointments, including:
District Logistics Officer, Maritime District Tg Sedili (2008), Operations Officer and Swasla Director, Sabah (2012), Deputy Director of Operations, Maritime District of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (2014), and Enforcement and Exercise Officer, Maritime Sabah & Labuan (2015).
His leadership excellence was further recognised with his appointment as State Maritime Director of Penang in 2018, where he directed enforcement operations, search and rescue missions, and inter-agency maritime safety collaborations. In 2020, he became Commanding Officer of KM Tun Fatimah in the Maritime Sarawak Region.
At the national level, First Admiral Hamizan has held several high-impact headquarters roles. In 2022, he served as Chief Assistant Director of the Maritime Security and Surveillance Division, overseeing surveillance strategies and maritime domain awareness. In 2023, he was appointed Director of the Search and Rescue and Disaster Relief Division, where he led national-level SAR operations and disaster response coordination. In 2024, he assumed the position of Director of the Engineering Division, managing technical operations, vessel maintenance programmes, and engineering capability enhancement within the MMEA.
In 2025, First Admiral Hamizan was entrusted as Director of the Sultan Ahmad Shah Maritime Academy (AMSAS), where he is responsible for formulating and implementing training policies, developing professional maritime enforcement courses, and ensuring the operational readiness of officers under MMEA.
First Admiral Hamizan holds a Diploma in Technology Management – Maritime Defence Transportation from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Skudai. His professional journey is marked by operational excellence, strategic foresight, and unwavering commitment to national service.
