Joey Ng Chun Meng currently focuses on maritime decarbonisation and the fuel transition and has spent the last 7 years tackling the challenge from a variety of roles (finance, strategy and safety) across the value chain (ship owner, operator / line, cargo owner and broker). Despite starting his career in finance in the oil and gas and commodities industry, he found his way into shipping and has not looked back since and firmly believes that a green future for shipping is not only possible but can be made economically sustainable and attractive for the shipping companies.
We currently do quite a bit around understanding the impact of levies on the maritime industry. It covers an introduction to the various levies currently in the market and the direct impact on trades and vessels. This covers the various nuances of the proposed regulations like the EU ETS, FuelEU Maritime and the latest proposed IMO GHG Fuel Intensity policy. While many focus on the fuel, the need to include the impact of asset values, vessel speed and fuel carbon intensity is what is required to have a holistic and complete view of the impact.
