Dr Ennarasu Karunesan has more than 35 years of leadership experience in the Maritime sector, including 25 years as President, Director & CEO, Chief Executive and Chief Advisor in the Global Ports and Logistics system. He has a demonstrated history of working in Mumbai Port, Malaysia Ports, P&O Ports, Dubai Ports World, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, Navi Mumbai and Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone, Mundra, which is the largest Port in the country. He was instrumental in setting up Westports, Malaysia from 1996 to 2004, one of the Major Transshipment Ports in Asia, and currently handling 12 million TEUs annually. He is a Senior Advisor to Indian Ports, Global Ports and the World Bank Group in the Maritime Sector.
Dr Karunesan has a PhD in Maritime Management and his thesis was highly commented on at the Indian Maritime University, Chennai. He holds a Mechanical Engineering degree and a Master’s in Management from JBIMS, University of Mumbai. He is currently visiting faculties at Indian Maritime University and Major Ports of India. He is one of the valued speakers at National, Regional and International Maritime conferences, spoken at 200-plus global conferences.
A multifaceted personality who is also concerned on activities for People on Health, Safety & Environmental Green movement. Obviously, he is a good team player. He was instrumental in transforming India’s Container EXIM trade to double its growth within 15 years and received more than 30 awards for his seamless service to the EXIM Trade of India and abroad.
Additionally, Dr Karunesan has been appointed as First IAPH’s (International Association of Ports & Harbours, Tokyo) Regional Director in India. In 2022, the Government of Tamil Nadu awarded “Kappalottiya Tamizhan” (“Tamil Helmsman”) to Dr Ennarasu Karunesan for his contributions to EXIM Trade.
