Capt. Luis G. Evidente began his seafaring career in 1970, obtaining successive certifications from 3rd Mate to 2nd Mate, Chief Officer, and Master Mariner by 1978. Interspersed with promotions whilst serving on various vessels trading world-wide, he served with Malaysia International Shipping Corporation Berhad (MISC), especially in its pioneering days into containerisation from late 1974 until 1998, having been master-in-command for about 19 years. He also served stints in newbuilding-supervision and deliveries in various shipyards. Following his experience in Ship Management and Manning, he joined the John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University, where he served in various roles, including Navigation and Radar Instructor, Graduate School Lecturer, Director for Post-Sea Assessment of Cadets, Academic Auditor, Training Director, and School Administrator, until 2016. He was Executive Assistant to the CEO of the University until this year and is now the University Consultant on External Affairs. He is a member of the Maritime Technical Committee of the Commission of Higher Education of the Philippines (CHED) which works together with the Maritime Administration on MET matters, policies and guidelines. He also represents the Chairman of the Board and/or the CEO on External Affairs, International Collaborative Activities with related organisations, agencies or institutions world-wide especially in International Association of Marine Universities (IAMU) Assemblies & Conferences, participating as Research presenter or delegate and also as Working Group Member of IAMU on onboard training (OBT) which has submitted documents/studies to the IMO-HTW-MSC. He was once delegated to represent IAMU at the IMO’s 76th Session for Technical Cooperation in London and as membership evaluator.
