Captain Abdul Aziz Abdullah is an esteemed maritime professional with a distinguished career spanning over four decades. He completed his pre-sea training at the Pakistan Marine Academy in Karachi under a scholarship from the Port Klang Authority (PKA) in 1973-1974, graduating with the prestigious President of Pakistan’s Gold Medal for Best Overall Cadet.
Captain Abdul Aziz began his seafaring career with MISC Bhd, where he gained invaluable experience before advancing to serve a foreign shipping entity. In early 1984, he earned his Master’s certificate of competency from Australia, marking a significant milestone in his maritime career.
As a Harbour Pilot for the Port Klang Authority, Captain Abdul Aziz played a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of maritime operations for seven years. His tenure as a Marine Officer with the Marine Department in Brunei Darussalam from 1991 to 2007 was marked by exceptional leadership and dedication to maritime safety.
Captain Abdul Aziz’s commitment to maritime education is evident in his roles as a Senior Lecturer at the Akademi Laut Malaysia (ALAM) and Head of Nautical Studies at the Sarawak Maritime Academy (SMA). He has significantly contributed to maritime training and consultancy, serving as the Chief Operating Officer at the PELORUS Intelligence and Technology Academy and General Manager (Training & Consultancy) at the Centre of Maritime Excellence (CME).
Captain Abdul Aziz’s expertise has been recognized globally, as evidenced by his appointments to the Malaysian Delegation for the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) Maritime Safety Committee and various other international conferences. He has been honored as a Fellow of both the Nautical Institute in the United Kingdom and the Association of Malaysia’s Maritime Professionals (IKMAL).
Currently serving as the President of IKMAL, Captain Abdul Aziz continues to advocate for the welfare and professional development of maritime professionals in Malaysia. As the SEA Ambassador for Malaysia appointed by the International Seafarers’ Welfare and Assistance Network (ISWAN), he is dedicated to improving the welfare of seafarers on a global scale.
