The Admiral joined Pakistan Navy in 1981 and was subsequently granted commission in Operations branch in 1985. After a brief stint on surface ships, he volunteered to join Submarine Force and specialized in Underwater Warfare from France.
During his long association with the Navy, the Admiral served on various Command & Staff appointments; to include Command of Submarine KHALID, Commander Submarine Squadron, Capt. Training Sub Surface to Flag Officer Sea Training and Director Submarine Operations at NHQ. As Head of Mission in France, he supervised Agosta 90B submarine acquisition project for two years. He performed the duties of ACNS (Ops & Plan) in Projects-II & ACNS (Operations) at NHQ. In 2015 the Flag Officer was assigned the duties as DG (Joint Warfare and Training) at JSHQ. He also served as Chief Project Director for Chinese Submarine acquisition, & Deputy Chief of Naval Staff Projects-II at NHQ. At the pinnacle of his career, he was appointed Chief of Staff to CNS. In 2022, the Admiral bid farewell to 41 years of active naval service.
The Admiral is a graduate of PNWC, NDU and Command & Staff College China. In recognition of his meritorious services, he was conferred upon Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (Military), Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Military) and Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military). Admiral is a keen Golfer & Badminton player. He is also an expressionist.
At present, he is serving as President of National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA). He has been a regular participant in various international and national conferences, including IISS – UK, NESA – USA, KMI – South Korea, Nor-Shipping – Norway, APLN – South Korea, VERTIC – UK, Harbin University – China, IMO – London, along with TV talk shows, and writing in print & social media on National Security, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs. He has co-authored two books titled ‘Gap Analysis Report on Safe and Environmentally Sound Ship Recycling (SENSREC) Programme in Pakistan’ and ‘Navigating Legal Horizons – Seafarers’ Handbook on Naval Operations and Law of the Sea’.
