Michiel holds an MSc in Maritime Economics from Erasmus University Rotterdam and has various qualifications in Supply Chain Management from MIT. He has published articles on offshore supply base selection, hinterland integration, and regional port development. A Member of the International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME) and a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), Michiel combines academic depth with frontline experience, bringing practical insights into how supply chains can adapt to the evolving demands of the global energy transition.
Michiel has held senior leadership roles with Nedlloyd, DSR-Senator Lines, MSC Mediterranean Shipping and Pentagon Freight Services. He has also handled consulting assignments for Drewry Shipping Consultants.
Originally from The Netherlands, Michiel spent much of his career in Australia, Dubai and across Southeast Asia. Michiel has led large-scale logistics operations in over a dozen countries, often in remote and technically demanding environments. His specialties include supply chain optimization, marine logistics, greenfield project delivery, and operational excellence. He now resides in the UK. Beyond his professional responsibilities, Michiel is actively involved in industry forums and contributes to discussions on best practices in logistics and supply chain management.
